Many students of Calcutta University have also taken to Twitter to voice their concerns. Using hashtags like #wewantonlineexams, several students tagged State Chief Minister Mamata Banerji and other education department officials to hold online exams instead of offline.

Arijit Saha, a student of CU-affiliated Bangabasi College stated, "Classes were held on campus only for two months and we are expected to write papers based on the whole syllabus. This is possible only if exams are held in an open book format like the last two years".

This is not the first time students have protested, similar rallies were conducted at the varsity's main campus twice last week. According to media sources, Calcutta University then organised a committee to discuss how the next examinations should be conducted.

The institute has agreed to appoint a team of experts to decide on the mode of examination which proposed that the undergraduate and postgraduate end-semester exams should be held offline.

College principals, on the other hand, have been requested to provide feedback on the suggestion. Meanwhile, on May 26, Vice-Chancellor Sonali Chakraborty Banerjee stated that the university will make the final decision after hearing from all parties.

Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP), State President Trinankur Bhattacharya told the media, “A section of students have taken part in the demonstrations, but TMCP is not involved."

“In many higher educational institutions, offline classes could not be held for a greater part of 2020-21. In some places, the percentage of offline classes was 20 per cent, and in some, 30 per cent. We had left it for the respective heads of institutions to take individual decisions considering all factors," Bhattacharya said when asked about the stand of TMCP on the issue.
