Calcutta University to Conduct UG, PG Semester Exams in Offline Mode


New Delhi: Amid students' protests seeking online examinations, Calcutta University has announced that it will conduct all its upcoming semester examinations in offline mode for undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

As per the statement released by Calcutta University on June 03, 2022, CU Vice-Chancellor Sonali Chakraborty Banerjee has informed that the exam authority has "unanimously" decided to conduct the upcoming semester exams in offline mode.

Referring to the statement, she added, "Calcutta University Syndicate members unanimously accepted the recommendations of the members of all Faculty Councils, the chairpersons of all Undergraduate Boards of Studies, and the opinions of most of the Principals to conduct the upcoming even semester examinations in offline mode”.

The university is now preparing to release the schedule for its upcoming examination for CU UG, PG Courses. The university has also directed its affiliated schools to complete the syllabus of students before the exam by holding special classes. 

Informing about the decision, the CU VC said, "Syndicate has decided that all the Principals of affiliated colleges will be well- advised to take steps to arrange special classes to complete courses immediately according to the syllabi, if not already done".

Earlier, the Calcutta University students staged protests against the CU online semester exams. The students requested the authorities to conduct the exam in online mode as only two months of classroom teaching were conducted for this session. 

Due to this, the university conducted a meeting with heads of 155 CU affiliated colleges to decide on the mode of examination for the semester examination. Most of the principals and heads who attended the meeting were in favor of taking exams in offline mode.

As per the officials, the Jadavpur and Vidyasagar University were inclined toward online exams, and Rabindranath Bharati University wants offline exams. To take the final call on the mode of exam, the university decided to conduct a third and final meeting on June 03, 2022.
