Jadavpur University: No more Real-Time Classes; Classes to be held in Distance Digital Mode

Jadavpur University has decided not to hold online real-time classes and has preferred to take the classes ahead with distance digital.

As per reports, a central repository has been created on the Jadavpur University website, where all the course materials and lectures will be uploaded. The University took this step for the comfort of students as there had been a digital divide among a huge number of students.

Jadavpur University Vice-Chancellor Das said in a statement, "Real-time classes will not be held generally and classes are now to be held in distance digital mode. If anyhow a teacher wants to hold online classes that have 10 students with each enjoying sound connectivity, they are free to do so."

The content of course material will be uploaded in the format of Word or PDF files, audio notes, or video recordings. Students will also be made aware of the material uploaded via email or any messaging services by the University authorities.

Besides this, Jadavpur University is also planning to upload the material on public social platform YouTube where students can view the content anytime. One of the University teachers also said, "Advantage of this mechanism is that students can go through the content at any time of the day and slots will be fixed for clearing doubts through conference calls."

With a humongous dispute going over the poor connectivity faced while attending the online classes, the move taken by Jadavpur University will help in a smooth study process. Also making a conference call does not require Internet connectivity and smartphones.

The University had been working hard to raise a corpus to provide smartphones and high-speed internet to the students.
