Cotton University set to Launch BA Course for Sports Persons


Cotton University will be launching a BA course for sportspersons from this academic session. It will be the first of its kind in northeastern India. The general bachelor’s degree course will offer much-needed flexibility to outstanding sportspersons of the region to pursue their studies, along with their sporting careers.

“Under this course, meritorious sportspersons from the region will be able to continue higher education at Cotton University, along with their sporting careers,” said the vice-chancellor of Cotton University.

“It will follow a mentorship model with enough flexibility, which will be conducted by the mentors with convenient scheduling of interactions with students.”

The course has been designed with a view to allowing students to pursue a master’s degree in any of the desired subjects opted as a special paper during the undergraduate course. With 20 credits for each semester, the course will contain 120 credits across six semesters.

Though the course will have a minimum duration of three years, a student can stretch the course up to six years. The details of the course are available on the official website of the university.

The course is especially intended for outstanding sportspersons who have presented the national team in international events or secured one of the first three positions in national-level competitions organized by the respective federation in any SAI-recognized sports events. 

In the case of cricket, being a member of the national team (junior or senior) selected by the BCCI will be considered. However, the candidate should have qualified 10+2 from a recognized board.
