Course on Drone Technology in IITs, Technical Institutes to be Starting Soon; Check Details Here

New Delhi: Dr. Abhishek and Mangal Kothari from IIT Kanpur have created a two-year degree programme in drone technology that places equal emphasis on academic and practical training. Additionally, new technology for drone production would be included.

According to the Hindustan Times, IIT Kanpur has created a drone technology course that will be taught at IITs, other technical institutions, and skill development centres around the nation.

According to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology's guidelines, the course has been created. The measure, given the ministry's future-oriented view on drone technology, would aid in the supply of qualified drone industry experts. A faculty member stated, "This is the reason the ministry has undertaken this duty of bringing drone technology to students at the macro-level."

Two aero-space engineering scientists, Dr. Abhishek (he goes by one name) and Mangal Kothari, were tasked with creating the course. The two have created a two-year degree programme where both theory and practical instruction will be given equal weight. The course also covers recent developments in drone manufacturing technology. According to Prof. Abhishek, the course was created with the students' evolving requirements. The academic institutions would soon introduce the course.

IIT Kanpur, a pioneer in the drone development programme

IIT Kanpur was a pioneer in the development of drone technology. In addition to conducting significant studies, scientists have created the most miniature drones possible, outfitted with cutting-edge technology. At IIT Kanpur, the Uttar Pradesh government intends to establish a drone development centre of excellence.

Drones developed by IIT Kanpur

  • The best drones from IIT Kanpur include Alakh which weighs just 225 grams. It has been developed for the armed forces for surveillance purposes.
  • A drone named 'Gauraiya' appears like a sparrow and weighs 239 grams. It has proved its worth in hills and mountains.
  • Hawk is a powerhouse of 300 grams, can fly for 25 minutes and sends live footage in an area of 2 km.
  • The Auto-Pilot is armed with artificial intelligence and this drone sends all the data to the control room even if it has crashed.
