However, the Justice said that there is no point in interference of HC in this regard, it is totally dependent on the Institute. He added that the increase in the fees cannot be termed as arbitrary or oppressive in nature, hence the plea remains rejected.

The students, earlier stated that there was a high increment in the fees for NRI quota as well as for General or non-NRI quota. The Institute raised the fees by 10% and 5% for NRI students and non-NRI students respectively.

The NIFT has already released the revised fee structure in the form of a circular. On this basis, students have challenged the fee hike. Considering the circular, the HC mentioned that the increment is from July to December and January to June (2021).

Furthermore, the Court reasoned the decision that in these tough times of COVID-19 many people are suffering from the financial crises. This has implied the Institute to increase the fees for both the quotas.

Many students gathered against the fee hike decision of the Institute. The plea was filed by the name of Ananya Narayanan, Moubani Poddar, Twwisha Gupta, and Sanskriti Priyambda.

The students highlighted the fact that the decision is completely wrong & unfair and lacks transparency in the same. The institute contains a procedure for its academic sessions that are mentioned in NIFT Academic Programmes Ordinances 2012. It was suspicious whether the decision was matching the rules of the procedure.

The whole plea was just dismissed in the light of COVID circumstances. The Court dismissed the plea ignoring the inconstant financial strength of various individuals.
