Delhi University Receives 1700 Applications for DU Fee Waiver Program

New Delhi: Delhi University has received about 1,700 applications for its fee waiver program for students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, according to the official statement released on February 02, 2023.

According to the official, Delhi University will review the submissions before publishing the complete list of individuals eligible for the Financial Support Scheme (FSS). The deadline for applying for the program was January 31, 2023.

"So far, we've gotten about 1,700 requests for the fee waiver program. By means of this program, the institution would provide financial help to the underprivileged students with the privileges of equity, access, and quality with brilliance, "the DU representative informed.

The DU announced the program in November 2022, in line with the government's "Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas" motto. Each student fee, except the test and hostel fee, is covered under the waiver program.

Students from underprivileged backgrounds may qualify for a 100% fee waiver on the basis of their family's income. The fee waiver program is only open to university students who are enrolled in full-time courses.

According to the official, "students with families earning less than Rs 4 lakh/ annum will be entitled to up to a 100% fee waiver, whereas students with families earning between Rs 4 lakh and Rs 8 lakhs can claim for a 50% waiver."

"We'll find out if the students qualify for a full waiver or only a portion of one. In the event of a misunderstanding, we may contact the learners for an interview,” explained the official. “Based on the authority, applicants who have ER (essential repeat) or arrears on previous exam papers are not eligible.”

The Delhi University had requested the registered applicant to send copies of their fee receipts, a tehsildar's or comparable competent authority's yearly family income proof for the previous fiscal year, and copies of their parent's income tax filings, where needed.

A copy of a bank passbook with the student's name, account number, bank's IFSC code, and a photo pasted where necessary is also required to apply for the program. For more details, interested candidates can visit the official website at du.ac.in.
