DU Puts Down UGC directions on PG Dual Degree Admissions for 2020

In the first-ever Delhi University virtual open house for postgraduate pre-admissions, about 1600 applicants joined in. The webinar saw students participating through channels including Google Meet and Facebook.

Delhi University pre-admission webinar was focused on Postgraduate courses and the officials clarified on certain new improvements made by UGC. At the webinar, many students expressed their interest to take admissions in dual courses or rather two different courses.

In line with this, DU confirmed on not allowing candidates to apply for two courses simultaneously from the varsity. Students can always opt for another course from a different university.

Besides, DU scrapped Group Discussion and Personal Interview for PG courses for 2020 admissions. These rounds were integral to admissions in Postgraduate courses like MBA, M.Com and MA, earlier.

Following which, DU’s PG admissions based on 15% weightage on interviews were removed.

Suman Kumar, a member of the Admission Branch, said further, "DU has not accepted the UGC's directions of dual degrees. And the dual degree option will be valid only when you apply in two different universities. No student can take admission simultaneously in two courses at DU.

While the university had to face scores of queries, most of them were regarding entrance exam for DU PG admissions 2020 dates. The PG entrance exams for DU will be conducted by the National Testing Agency and examination dates are yet to be released.

Meanwhile, applicants were also eager to know whether DU will provide an opportunity to correct application forms.

Elaborating on this, Shobha Bagai, Dean of Admissions, Delhi University, explained, "You should try to fill the form with focus so that you make no mistakes. If you don't have certificates, you can upload old certificates for now but at the time of admissions, you will have to upload new certificates. We will inform you about the dates for that.”

Also, this year, Delhi University created history as it received 57,000 registrations in the first 24 hours.

At the very beginning, applicants were informed regarding two modes of admission with 50% seats devoted to merit-based and other 50% to entrance based categories. Non-DU students have to take DUET 2020 (Delhi University Entrance Exams)

Adding on, Shobha Bagai asserted that DU students can also take entrance exams. There are several DU courses which will confer admissions only after students appear for an entrance test.

Finally, solving issues of the PG applicants, an official of DU PG Admissions simplified that students are not required to physically visit their respective departments for document verification for now.
