DU Semester Exams 2023: Marks Goof Up in First Year Economics Paper; Check Details Here

New Delhi: Delhi University has commenced its first semester exams. It conducted the economics paper for first year students on March 3, 2023. The exam witnessed a goof up in the paper when the total marks of the paper which was to be 90 marks turned out to for 75 marks.

First-year economics students of Delhi University were in for a shock on Thursday when they appeared for an exam they thought was for 90 marks, but turned out to be for 75 marks. There were also several questions made form out of the syllabus on the paper. The academic council of DU changed the weightage of the question paper from 90 to 75 marks this year.

However, the first-semester four-year undergraduate programme students appearing for the 'introductory mathematics' exam received a 75-mark paper with a lot of questions from outside the syllabus.

Meanwhile, students who are appearing for the exam, have complained that the changes were brought in the at end of the semester which has made it difficult for them to prepare accordingly. Few questions were application based which made it more difficult for the students. The total marks was 160.

"We had just a few months with several changes introduced at the end. There were several application-based questions, which were difficult. The paper was of 75 marks instead of the already notified 90 marks. Now, we don't know how the marks will be calculated. We had to study seven subjects in such a small semester. All of us are disappointed," said an economics student at Ramjas College.

Several Teachers had also raised objection regarding the last minute changes in the exam pattern and questions.

Another student said, "The concepts taught to us were different from what came for the exam, which were not of the introductory level. All of us were in shock when we saw that the paper was of 75 marks and not 90 marks."

Teachers are speculating that the university has mistakenly printed and distributed old question paper. But this is of grave concern and such a mistake on the university’s part has affected the study of the students.

Dean (examination) DS Rawat, said, "In such occasions, the marks will be re-appropriated. The paper-setters must have not kept in mind the new scheme of things."
