DU to Conduct PG Admissions Through CUET 2023

New Delhi: For the upcoming DU admissions cycle, the Common University Entrance Test-PG (CUET PG) will replace the current postgraduate (PG) entrance test, according to the Academic Council of Delhi University (DU).

Only half of the seats will use this strategy; the other half will still admit internal DU students on the basis of merit. The council made this decision during its meeting today, which also covered the inclusion of CUET-PG to the admissions process, a raise in the fee for submitting a PhD thesis, and syllabi for several undergraduate courses for the second semester.

A ten-person committee was established to make recommendations for PG admissions in 2023–2024. 50% of admissions for students who have earned their bachelor's degree from DU are made directly under the existing DU PG admissions procedure based on merit.

According to a statement from the committee, "Admission to all postgraduate courses will be carried out through a single-window mechanism, where CUET-PG will be conducted by the National Testing Agency as it is done for other central universities for all categories of candidates."

Due to the fact that the CUET will be held independently for each programme and the merit list will be created in accordance with the requirements, the faculties will now be required to create new, particular qualifying standards based on their respective departments and subjects.

"The following priority definitions will be used while creating the Merit List: The first 50% of seats will be filled by the former group of applicants who sought admission through the Postgraduate Entrance Test, which will also include those who pass this Common University Entrance Test based on their eligibility to take the test in this group "The committee's suggestions.

The council also agreed to raise the overall charge for students without fellowships to Rs 5,500 while increasing the PhD thesis evaluation fee for those with fellowships by Rs 2,500, from Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,500. A thesis submission certificate and a provisional certificate cost Rs 500 in the past. This will be submitted with the thesis submission cost and has been raised to Rs 750 per person.

Additionally, the academic council approved a resolution that aimed to increase class sizes in order to accommodate all admissions. Six lawmakers voiced their opposition, arguing that the change will lower educational standards. With 60 students each batch for lectures, 30 for tutorials, and 25 for practical lessons in undergraduate programmes, the DU batch size has dramatically expanded. The number of students per batch for postgraduate programmes is 50, 25, and 15-20, respectively.

66 universities in all, including public, private, and central universities, had chosen to use the CUET PG exam for admissions. Delhi University was one of the universities that decided against participating in this entrance exam and would continue to administer admissions to PG programmes using the current procedures.
