New Delhi: Professor V Ramgopal Rao, most recently the head of the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi, has been appointed vice chancellor of the Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences(BITS) Pilani.

After Professor Rao takes on his new responsibilities as director of the (BITS), the Institute's campuses in Pilani, Hyderabad, Goa, Dubai, and Mumbai will each report to him individually. After his appointment, Professor Souvik Bhattacharyya, now serving as Vice Chancellor, will step down to make room for the next Vice-Chancellor.

BITS Pilani has issued a statement indicating that Professor Bhattacharyya would resign from his post on March 10 and that another professor will be taking over in line with the current circumstances.

"It's time to move on and take on new responsibilities; I've been a part of the IIT system in various ways for the last 25 years, both at IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi. The time has come for me to move on. It's time to move on to other things."

Tweets were sent out by Professor Rao announcing that he will be taking on the post of Group Vice Chancellor at the BITS institutions located in Pilani, Hyderabad, Goa, Dubai, and Mumbai.

Professor Rao has just been promoted to Pillay Chair Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering. During 2016 and 2021, he presided over the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Delhi as a director.

He has various roles in several different IITs, all of which are associated with him. Before moving to IIT Delhi, he worked as a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Bombay. He held the post of P. K. Kelkar, Chair Professor for Nanotechnology. After that, he joined the faculty at IIT Delhi.

It has been decided that Professor Rao would make the Pilani Campus his home abode. Instead of Professor Bhattacharyya, he will now act as the head of the department. As soon as Professor Rao begins working at the Institute, all of Professor Bhattacharyya's direct reporters will now report to Professor Rao instead of "sharing BITS Pilani.

In addition to the Dr.-Ing. degree earned in Germany, Professor Rao also has honorary doctorates from three universities in India. In addition to NASI, he is a Fellow of the IEEE, TWAS, INAE, INSA, and IASC.

He is also a member of the NASI.

In addition, he is the happy recipient of over 35 prestigious medals and honours bestowed upon him by organisations and institutions in different parts of the world. The Shanti Swarup E gar Prize, the IEEE EDS Education Award, and the Infosys Prize are just a few of the honours and accolades that have been bestowed upon the recipient of this work, amongst many more.
