New Delhi: The first 100 students in the first batch of the "Aapda Mitra" training course at Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University have been introduced by Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena.
People from different backgrounds who will be trained as first responders were among the attendees. Homemakers, parlour workers, and individuals employed by e-commerce companies were among the volunteers, and they claimed that recent earthquakes and other natural disasters were what motivated them to sign up for the GGSIPU training programme.
Sunita Sabharwal, 44, was motivated to sign up for the community service programme by her sibling's passing, who said that she intends to receive training so that she can assist others, whether they are in her house or neighbourhood. She's been looking after her sister's kids ever since she passed away.
After the incident, Sabharwal was inspired to help others and the larger community. Witnessing and hearing about catastrophes, not just in Delhi but also in other parts of the country, Sabharwal, a resident of Najafgarh, revealed that she wants to help actively.
Amit Kumar Dabri, a 24-year-old employee of an online retailer, stated that as a civil defence volunteer, they have received basic level training in terms of rescue and that they will be able to receive training from Aapda Mitra for abilities that are much more advanced, such as how to react and save lives in the event of an earthquake.
Moreover, Kajal, a 23-year-old homemaker, claimed that she wants to be prepared and have the requisite knowledge for such skills, so that she will be able to help needy people.
The LG declared that training of the first responders was "needed now," saying that ensuring a timely and appropriate reaction is the most difficult responsibility in the event of a tragedy. In an emergency, it's crucial that assistance and rescue efforts are made on their own.
As first responders to the destruction brought on by any emergency, everyone should equip volunteers with the rudimentary knowledge, skills, and comprehension of relief, rescue, emergencies, and medical services at the local level, Saxena said.
He continued saying that with the recent earthquakes occurring all over the world, it is imperative to quantify the importance of adequate awareness and preparation in the community. The protection of human life can be greatly impacted by community participation, which is a very important responsibility.
Stating that the university has planned to train a total of 600 volunteers in over 100 batches within 12 days each. Dr Mahesh Verma, GGSIPU vice-chancellor, said that the programme will be of great importance and guidance to the community at large under compelling circumstances.
