Gondwana University receives UGC approval for financial assistance from the Centre; Check Details Here


Gondwana University has received UGC’s approval to be eligible for central financial assistance and funds from the Government of India. 

On Wednesday, The University Grants Commission (UGC) proclaimed that the Gondwana University in Gadchiroli District meets the criteria to receive the central funds from the Government of India. Uday Samant, the Minister of Higher and Technical Education disclosed that the 12B status will assist the university to function smoothly. 

Under Section 12(B) of the UGC act, 1956, The University Grants Commission (UGC) offers funding to the eligible colleges which are qualified to acquire the UGC grants.

The scheme makes a college eligible for the central assistance from the Government of India or any other organization to accept the funds from the Centre. 

Upon its establishment in 2011, Gondwana University had sent a proposal to the UGC regarding financial assistance. After a gap of 9 years, the UGC accepted the proposal.

The Minister of Higher and Technical Education, Samant stated that the university will accept the grants from the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), a central government scheme to elevate the status of higher education.UGC.

In a recent notification, UGC informed the higher educational institutions to submit the proposals for offering online courses and distance learning courses. 

Earlier UGC had introduced the Open and Distance Learning Programme and Online Programs Regulations on September 4, 2020, taking into consideration of the pandemic situation, which disturbed the normal classes. 

The official notification also revealed that the online portal will be open till October 15, 2020, and will accept fresh applications.
