Great Lakes Chennai Launches Centre for Women Leadership


New Delhi: The Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chennai, under the guidance of its senior associate professor, K Rajeshwari, announced the launching of a Centre for Women Leadership. The announcement was made during the inauguration of the Women’s Week Leadership Conclave, on March 4, 2022. 

Suresh Ramanathan, Dean, Great Lakes Chennai, made the announcement. The conclave was titled ‘#ChoosetoChallenge’. After the COVID pandemic, this was the first offline event by the institute. 

We are proud to announce that we will be starting the Centre for Women Leadership at Great Lakes Institute of Management. The centre will provide a pathway for women to get back into the workforce. It will be a certification programme in association with corporate learning and development”, as stated by Ramanathan.

Moreover, he added that the Centre will not only offer functional skills, but also take the necessary measures to improve the confidence of women. The alumni of the institute and corporate leaders will also provide mentorship. 

As per the official statement, sensitivity training and gender role diabising will also be part of the curriculum. This is to include diversity and offer opportunities to all students. 

During the event, Ranjini Manian, the founder Chair, Championwoman, the keynote speaker, shared her journey from being an entrepreneur and cultural ambassador to a philanthropist and an author. She focused on the importance of not forgetting one’s roots while journeying across several areas in the world in different stages of her life. 

Further, she urged the women present to challenge their own learning, mindset and biases of the others. 

We must start measuring success based on mental health, physical health, free time, liking what you do along with job title and salary,” she also added.

During the event, her book, titled ‘Champion Woman Truths’ was also released by Ramanathan. 

The event was also followed by a panel discussion on the said theme. The keynote speakers included Bhavani Balasubramanian, Chief Strategist, Diversity Evaluations Avtar Group, Lalitha Balakrishnan, Principal, MOP Vaishnav College for Women.

Additionally, Sruti Harihara Subramanian, National Award-winning Filmmaker and Co-founder, Goli Soda Sustainable Solutions and Rohini Rau, Medical Professional, International Athlete-Sailing. Professor K Rajeshwari moderated the entire event.
