The state government of Gujarat has postponed the exams for medical, paramedical and dental courses at all universities in the state. The decision came a day after the government cancelled other college exams.
The exams will be rescheduled once the standard operating procedure is issued by the ministry of human resource development, said a senior official in the office of the commissioner of health, medical services and medical education.
Following which, Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University announced in a media statement that as per the instructions from the government, it had deferred medical and paramedical exams that were slated to begin on July 6.
Furthermore, Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, the state education minister on July 1 called off all final semester college exams in the state.
After which the state government asked the Centre for clarification as Gujarat University announced that there would be no change in its schedule for exams in medical, paramedical and dental courses for Gujarat University Affiliated institutes.
“A final decision on this will be taken according to directions of the central government, whose advice the state has sought in this matter,” said the state education minister.
Moreover, Gujarat University officials felt that medical and dental courses are regulated by the Medical Council of India and Dental Council of India and hence the directions of the state education minister did not apply to them. The minister’s decision was for varsities affiliated to the University Grants Commission (UGC), officials said.
