The Gujarat government has decided to establish a new Kaushalya Skill University in order to facilitate skill-based education, skill development, and entrepreneurship.
According to the reports, the Gujarat assembly on Tuesday passed the ‘Kaushalya’ the Skill University Bill 2021, that will pave the way for establishing the “Kaushalya” Skill University. While the discussion on the bill was conducted in the assembly, the opposition mocked the Gujarat government on its “unfulfilled promises” of creation of jobs, the report said.
Presenting the Kaushalya Skill University Bill 2021 in the assembly, Brijesh Merja, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, said that as the technological world moves forward, several industries are establishing their stores in Gujarat, which requires specialised manpower, the report said.
Further, Merja said that Gujarat is experiencing a requirement for skilled manpower owing to the ever-changing technology across the industry sectors.
Considering these circumstances, the “Kaushalya” Skill University will accelerate quality skill development aligned to industry demand, and institutionalise robust frameworks for teaching, training, and research, in order to fulfil the dynamic demands and requirements of industry and aspirations of the youngsters, the report said.
Merja said that approximately two lakh youngsters will be trained and skilled under the Kaushalya Skill University, as per the report. Kirit Patel, Congress MLA from Patan questioned the Gujarat government on setting up universities but not offering any job opportunities.
As per the report, Patel questioned the government asking if the graduates are employed even after spending lakhs. As there are already different technical institutes like ITIs, the Gujarat Technological University, and the Agriculture University across the state.
Further, she questioned the need for a different university when the existing universities are already offering technical courses. She added that attempts should be made to strengthen the technical board existing in the state and upgrade the ITI colleges in Gujarat, the report said.
According to the reports, the former Education Minister, Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, responded saying that the Gujarat government was offering a platform to the youth to upskill.
He said that the Student Startup and Innovation Policy has been in place for the past five years, which is now heading towards its second phase. In today's fast-paced world, the Gujarat youngsters are not job seekers, but job creators and job givers.
