Gujarat Technological University to conduct online, offline exams for final year students from July 2, 2020

Gujarat Technological University (GTU) decided from July 2, 2020 to conduct annual examinations for final year students of all faculties of its more than 486 affiliated colleges.

Around 1.2 lakh students are waiting to appear for the final-year GTU exams.

Given the ongoing pandemic situation, GTU gave the students two options for appearing for the University exam. Students are free to opt for either online or offline examinations, the registration for which will begin on June 19, 2020 according to the reports.

With this, GTU became one of the first universities to take such an initiative to conduct online as well as offline examinations.

GTU Offline exams are scheduled from July 2, 2020 according to the statement released by the University and GTU Online exams will begin from July 21, 2020.

Speaking of the decision to conduct both online and offline examinations, Vice-Chancellor Professor Navin Sheth said, "We have received several representations from students to postpone or promote examinations by mass. But, with both options, we decided to conduct exams. This was done to address the students and parents concerns. We have students from outside Gujarat and the country who might have returned to their homes; after analyzing the risk factor involving the Covid-19 pandemic, we have worked out all the details, including the safety of the students.”

The decision was taken in an online meeting conducted by the University VC with the principals of the GTU affiliated colleges. Senior officials of the examination section of the university also attended the meeting. According to the VC, the examinations will be conducted following all the precautionary measures, including social distancing and thermal scanning in the examination halls.
