The Gujarat Technological University (GTU) has reiterated its earlier notice to use internal marks and past semester results to assess final semester undergraduate students having backlogs.
The state government took this decision of Merit-based Progression (MBP) keeping in view that conducting exams at this time will not be possible. This decision is going to benefit around 2,500 students studying at GTU affiliated colleges.
Navin Sheth, Vice-Chancellor of GTU said, "The GTU academic Council had decided in the past to evaluate terminal semester undergraduate students on the basis of 'merit-based progression'."
As per the latest UGC guidelines, students of terminal semesters or final-year students having backlogs should be evaluated by conducting offline or online or blended (online + offline) examinations according to the feasibility.

GTU also called off exams to be held from July 2, 2020. Close to 54,000 students registered for the theory exams that were to begin from July 2, 2020. The GTU had set up 350 examination centres across the state and has appointed observers as well.
Recently a guideline has been issued by GTU which states that the terminal semester and final year examinations will be held by the end of September either in offline mode or online mode or in a blended format.
The guidelines also add that in case a student couldn't appear in the September examinations, provisions will be made so that they can take the exams later.
