Gujarat University Partners University of Ladakh to Offer Joint Degree Courses and Research; Read Details Here


Gujarat University's Indian Institute of Sustainability (IIS) has partnered with the University of Ladakh to offer joint degree courses and research programs as transfer credit. 

A Memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the University of Ladakh and Gujarat University's IIS, as a part of which the UoL has established a ladakh cultural center on the campus of Gujarat University, Ahmedabad. 

The Ladakh Cultural Center will be inaugurated on December 25. Courses like MBA and Integrated MBA in Agribusiness Management and Sustainability, Tourism Management and Sustainability will be offered under the MoU. 

Further, as a part of the MoU, Executive courses in the areas of spirituality and mental peace, skill development courses including solar power technology will be offered at both the universities.

The memorandum of understanding will mainly concentrate on the common centre of the IIS at Ladakh, that will be developed together by IIS and University of Ladakh together. 

The common centre will focus on joint programmes, joint research, joint projects and centres related to sustainability issues such as water, environment, agripreneurship and incubation.

Speaking about the MoU, Himanshu Pandya, Vice Chancellor and chairperson Indian Institute of Sustainability, said that the MoU will aim at the technical collaboration between the two universities to fortify the knowledge-sharing and policy development in Ladakh. 

Further, the motive is to uplift and promote cooperation in the field of agriculture, start-ups, sustainability, and innovation. For example, research on the adaptability of animals and plants in extreme conditions of Ladakh, which can be undertaken to understand and replicate the resistance values elsewhere, Pandya said.

Professor SK Mehta, Vice-Chancellor, University of Ladakh, said that with the establishment of a new university, the UoL will get the most advantage from the joint degree courses and research programmes. The university has planned to maintain an equal balance for the course and fee structure to facilitate the transfer of credits for joint degree courses.
