Gujarat University Plans to Appoint An Agency To Avoid Glitches in Admission Process

New Delhi: Gujarat University in its Executive Council meeting on Monday declared that it will appoint an agency for its admission process for the upcoming academic year to avoid glitches and inconvenience to students.

The initiative is made contrary to the previous decision to conduct the admission process by Gujarat University on its own. To monitor the admissions process, a committee comprising academicians, the dean, and two EC members will be constituted, and tender inviting bids from agencies will be released soon.

The admission process of Gujarat University will begin within a month. From the next academic session, separate committees will be formed for each faculty. At present, there is a single committee for the purpose which will be dissolved.

The committees will be led by the deans of various faculties. The EC also agreed that in the upcoming years, the institution would no longer use the services of the government agency for the admission procedure in order to cut costs. Currently, the admissions committee of Gujarat University forwards its judgments to this agency, which then administers the admissions process.

In the meeting, the EC also discussed how to proceed against former Vice-Chancellor Adesh Pal, who was found guilty of maladministration and misappropriation in a Lokayukta order.

The EC has called off GU's plan to offer a diploma programme in horseback riding. Members of the EC argued at the meeting that providing Rs 350 crore of land for a horse riding course is not a realistic concept. They claimed that GTU was the first institution to offer the subject, but it did not attract a large number of students.
