New Delhi: Indian Institute of Management, (IIM-Kozhikode) has joined hands with the Kozhikode Corporation for an integrated livelihood generation project titled ‘We-Lift’

In the presence of Mayor Beena Philip and Welfare Standing Committee Chairman P Divakaran, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at the Corporation office by Corporation Secretary KU Bini and Deepa Sethi, Dean (Programs and International Relations), IIM-K .

To Discover 5,000 Jobs in Four Years 

The primary objective of the project is to find at least 5,000 job openings for marginalised city residents under the wage and self-employment sectors during the next four years, with a focus on women's empowerment.

According to Divakaran, the project would create prospects for both self-employment and job opportunities through entrepreneurial development programmes.

Members of the Kudumbashree, Kudumbashree auxiliary groups, Gulf returnees who lost their livelihoods as a result of COVID-19, candidates who have completed elementary education, professional courses, and are looking for work, school dropouts, and other youths who were unable to finish primary education, as well as qualified, trained, or untrained homemakers are among the beneficiaries.

IIM-K to Ensure Project Viability 

The institute will have the responsibility of creating a thorough project report based on the needs assessment study, and a market study report and marketing strategies for branding and marketing.

In addition to recognising and suggesting viable micro firms for whom banks and other financial enterprises supply adequate loans, it will also recognize capacity-building requirements, recommend areas for training, and construct training modules.

A Three-tiered Project Implementation Structure 

Divakaran said that the project would be implemented using the Kudumbashree three-tier system, which consists of neighbourhood groups, area development societies, and community development societies, and the City Mission Management Unit, National Urban Livelihoods Mission, Kudumbashree auxiliary groups, NGOs, and youth forums.

The National Urban Livelihoods Mission, Ayyankali Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, drinking water projects, social security initiatives of urban local governments, state government initiatives, and Kerala Knowledge Economy Mission have been selected as areas of convergence.
