New Delhi: IIM Kozhikode has developed a "Centre for Climate Studies." The CCS, which will be an IIMK Centre of Excellence, will concentrate on Climate Leadership, Internationalisation and Management for Policy Advancement, Technology, and Enterprise (CLIMATE).
Its activities will include a special issue on CLIMATE in the IIM Kozhikode Society and Management Review, the only magazine published by an Indian management school that is indexed in both the Chartered Association of Business Schools and the Australian Business Deans Council.
Among other aspects, the centre will develop and provide short-term training courses in IIM Kozhikode to prepare climate ambassadors who will participate in joint climate research activities through the Lakshadweep Studies programme and move educational campuses toward carbon neutrality.
IIM Kozhikode has also issued a call for papers from researchers, scholars, and thought leaders throughout the world for a special issue on Climate, which will be due on October 17, 2022. Submissions are accepted at journals.sagepub.com/home/ksm.
Prof Debashis Chatterjee, Director IIM Kozhikode, said, “Climate change is an enormous challenge to which the international community, national policymakers and educational institutes need to proactively respond to. Research, technological innovation, entrepreneurship, leadership and environmental awareness will be the foundation on which the Centre will endeavour to make a meaningful contribution towards India’s goals of achieving carbon-neutrality by 2070.”
IIM-CCS K's has also introduced India's first student competition bringing together our campuses and the climate crisis in order to raise awareness among tomorrow's thought leaders. The SCNC competition will push students to create a baseline, brainstorm, develop, and submit solutions to the subject of how their campus can achieve net-zero or carbon neutrality by 2047. Further details will be posted on the competition website, and first-stage submissions are due on August 16, 2022.
