IIM Kozhikode to Offer a Certificate Degree in Social Initiative Management


New Delhi: Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kozhikode and TimesPro have collaborated to create a certificate programme for managing social initiatives. This programme seeks to equip participants with skills that enhance their capacity to plan and manage social initiatives.

This 11-month certificate programme offered by IIM Kozhikode is meant to assist learners in gaining conceptual knowledge of the three domains of social initiatives: corporate social responsibility, non-profit enterprises, and social entrepreneurship.

Students in the programme will learn about managing social initiatives, interacting with stakeholders, developing impact measuring systems, finding financing sources, and creating value.

The capstone project for the certification course will also require students to develop a social business concept and strategy for a company or non-government organization (NGO). The course will be offered in direct-to-device (D2D) mode using TimesPro's interactive learning (IL) platform.

The IL uses a tried-and-true pedagogy of resources, including lectures, real-world case studies, homework assignments, and exams. There are two modules in the curriculum. Managing social initiatives, paths to social initiatives, addressing social concerns, and becoming an impact champion are some topics covered in the foundation module.

The advanced module includes the capstone project, impact analysis, framework of social initiatives, public-private partnership, and creation of social enterprises. 

Director of IIM Kozhikode Debashis Chatterjee commented on the news: "The social service sector demands management professionals with a complete understanding of the social environment to ensure efficiency, quality, and durability of service delivery to the public.”

In addition, she stated that "Required management competencies with a social perspective encompass human resources, finance, fundraising, marketing, organizational management, strategic management, social policy and administration, research and evaluation, and the use of information technology in delivering services, among others.” 

“Participants in this programme, created by IIM Kozhikode's top-notch faculty with the help of their cutting-edge innovative thinking and market-leading insights, will be empowered to manage and lead complex managing issues with assurance and decision-making capacity,” She added.
