IIT Delhi Sees an Increase in New Admissions, Decline in UG Graduates

New Delhi: The numbers show that this year, there are 266 more women applying for postgraduate (non PhD) courses than men (1155), who make up the majority of students at IIT Delhi.

Between 2021–2022 and 2022–2023, there was a noticeable increase in the number of students enrolling at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT–D). From 10,439 in 2021–2022 to 12,098 in 2022–2023 was an increase.

It's interesting to note that the number of enrolled students is larger than in the years before to the pandemic: 8971 in 2018–19, 9793 in 2019–20, and 10900 in 2020–21. The total number of degrees granted this year has decreased, though. A total of 2100 degrees were granted during the 2021–22 academic year, down from 2117 during the 2020–21 academic year.

Additionally to the overall fall, this year saw a decrease in the number of undergraduate students who completed their programmes. From 986 in 2020–2021, the number of PG degrees issued decreased to 909 this year. However, this year saw a rise in the number of PhDs awarded from 288 to 307 as well as a rise in the number of UG degrees granted from 843 to 884.

More than 300 graduates will receive PhDs this year (including dual degrees), while almost 900 graduates will receive UG degrees and diplomas, as well as MS (R), MTech, MDes, MBA, PG-DIIT, and Joint PG Diplomas. These figures demonstrate our ongoing growth, according to the institute.

The numbers show that this year, there are 266 more women applying for postgraduate (non PhD) courses than men (1155), who make up the majority of students. 253 female applicants were admitted to undergraduate programmes compared to 973 male applicants. There are 406 male applicants for PhD programmes compared to 215 female applicants.

The institute has also introduced five new undergraduate and graduate programmes, including the Bachelor of Design (BDes), MS (R) in Machine Intelligence and Data Science (MINDS), MS (R) in Transportation Safety and Injury Prevention, MTech in Biomolecular and Bioprocess Engineering, and MTech in Machine Intelligence and Data Science (MINDS).
