IIT Delhi Signs MoU with University of Helsinki for Academic Cooperation & Joint Research

New Delhi: The University of Helsinki (UH) and the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT-D) establish a contract for academic cooperation in research and education in one or more scientific disciplines.

Both institutions will work together to jointly supervise students and postdocs, exchange faculty and students for a set amount of time on a reciprocal basis for education and research, and plan, build, and run research infrastructures together, particularly the Atmospheric Observatory at the IIT Delhi Sonipat campus.

Under the terms of the agreement, IITD and UH have committed to share information on their educational and research programmes, teaching resources, and other literature. IIT Delhi and UH have decided to establish a programme to collaborate in research, education, and planning, developing and testing new measurement technologies, and building and operating research infrastructure, with a focus on helping to address air quality and climate change challenges in India. This builds on an earlier agreement between the Consortium of Finnish Universities in Finland and the IITs in India.

Naveen Garg, dean of international programmes at IITD, Somnath Baidya Roy, director of the centre for atmospheric sciences at IIT Delhi, and Sasu Tarkoma, dean of the college of science at the University of Helsinki, all signed the agreement.

Somnath Baidya Roy, director of the IIT Delhi Center for Atmospheric Sciences, commented on the deal, saying, "We are already collaborating to create a world-class Atmospheric Observatory. This alliance will be strengthened through the MoU, which will also open up new channels for cooperation.

Sasu Tarkoma, head of the college of science at the University of Helsinki, continued, "We have a fantastic scientific partnership with IIT Delhi that is growing and developing. For better understanding our environment and anticipating air quality, comprehensive long-term atmospheric measurement is essential.
