IIT Delhi to set up Offshore Campus in Abu Dhabi


New Delhi: An offshore campus for the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi is being established in Abu Dhabi. The institute will also start a number of projects, including a modern observatory in Sonepat, a cutting-edge central research facility on campus as well as in Hauz Khas and Sonepat, a healthcare hub, and a centre for paraplegics in Jhajjar, among others. In 2023, the institute will also release a new curriculum.

The convocation for IIT Delhi will take place today, November 5, 2022. The institute announced that it is opening an institute in Abu Dhabi during a press conference. IIT Abu Dhabi will be coordinated by an ex-dean of academia. The Center had asked IIT Delhi to look into the possibilities of opening a campus in the United Arab Emirates in August (UAE).

IIT Delhi has throughout this time span introduced new academic programmes:

  • Master of Science, (Research) in Machine Intelligence and Data Science
  • MTech in Machine Intelligence and Data Science
  • MS (R) in Transportation Safety and Injury Prevention
  • MTech in Biomolecular and and Bioprocess Engineering

Academic programmes for which degrees given for the first time:

  • Joint PhD (IIT Delhi and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University)
  • Joint PG Diploma in Visionary Leadership for Manufacturing
  • MS (R) in Sensors, Instrumentation and Cyberphysical Systems Engineering
  • MSc in Cognitive Science
  • MSc in Economics

IIT Delhi stated that the plan was to send delegations of professors to the parliament to discuss research related to 5G, observatory, and other topics.

The institute reported that enrollment of overseas students has significantly decreased during the previous two years, but it anticipates a big improvement in the upcoming academic year. For international students, the institute offers 500 fully financed PhD fellowships.
