IIT Guwahati ties up with Coursera to offer job relevant online degrees

New Delhi: To advance drone technology in the Northeast, the institute also signed a contract with business partners.

The online education company Coursera and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Guwahati have signed a Memorandum of Understanding. IIT Guwahati announced this on Twitter. Excited to expand our collaboration with @coursera to now provide entirely online degrees on their platform, it said in the tweet. The most influential credentials in the job market continue to be degrees. Together, we're expanding all people's access to affordable, high-quality education.

Expanding drone-based training

The institute also entered into a contract with RC Hobbytech Solutions Pvt Ltd. and Assam Electronics Development Corporation Ltd. (RCH). The goal is to collaborate on advancing and growing drone-based production, research, and training for a variety of industries, including agriculture, disaster management, wildlife protection, and healthcare, among others.

The contract was signed by Biswajit Dey, co-founder of RC Hobbytech Solutions Pvt Ltd., S Sundar, managing director of AMTRON, and Prof. Parameswar K. Iyer, acting director of IIT Guwahati. Iyer stated, "The members of IIT Guwahati Drone Centre and Technology Incubation Hub will be key pieces in this endeavour." The three organisations will collaborate to engage in research and development operations.

Drones will be developed by IIT Guwahati to meet the state's demands for disaster containment, while AMTRON will support communication efforts and RCH will contribute the necessary technical know-how. Along with this, the Drone Helpline Student Volunteer Team of the Institute and AMTRON Drone Team would launch a Disaster Response Cell at IIT Guwahati.
