New Delhi: IIT Guwahati has signed an MoU with the Mehta Family Foundation (MFF) Houston, Texas, USA for the establishment of the Jyoti and Bhupat Mehta School of Health Sciences and Technology. This new school is to commence academic activities from the current academic year.
With the establishment of the new school, IIT Guwahati has launched to begin new Masters’ and PhD programmes in Health Sciences and Technology from the academic year 2022-23. As per the latest information, the first batch of 20 M.Tech students in the stream of Biomedical Science and Engineering will be offered admission on the basis of their GATE scores.
The institute aims to provide training to students in topics related to the areas of Health Science and Technology. There will be an emphasis on subjects from the Science and Engineering fields such as Bioscience, Bioengineering, Electronics and Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mathematics and Statistics and Design.
“The school will bring in the budding academic leaders in the closest proximity of world-class educationists, scientists, physicians, technologists, and entrepreneurs, which may catalyze high-impact research, diminish expensive biomedical imports, and engender an academic curriculum that substantiates the vision of a sustainable society”, as stated by Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser, Government of India.
This multidisciplinary programme on Health Sciences and Technology at IIT Guwahati has been designed as per the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The principle is to work towards the development of a holistic academic curriculum to nurture the best-talented minds of the country through course pedagogy and direct training.
About IIT Guwahati
IIT Guwahati holds 7th position on the NIRF list. The institute currently has 1700 students enrolled in its various courses and 410 faculty members. It offers UG, PG and PhD degrees in 57 different courses. The subjects include Engineering, Management, Sciences and Humanities.
The campus includes 11 departments, 5 academic centres, 5 extramural centres and 13 hostels. At present, the institute has 135 MoUs across 31 countries. The partnerships have resulted in a number of student and faculty exchange programmes, internships, joint conferences and workshops related to joint research projects.
Two of its major flagship programmes include B.Tech and M.Tech. To apply for IIT Guwahati Admission 2022 in B.Tech, candidates must offer a valid score in JEE Advanced and for the M.Tech, they need to produce a GATE score.
