New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur alumnus, Ajay Dubey and his wife Rooma Dubey donated INR 2 crore (USD 2,50,000) to the institute and signed an MoU to support and fund health-tech initiatives.

As per IIT Kanpur, the establishment of the "Rooma and Ajay Dubey Healthcare Innovation and Ideation Program (HII programme)" has benefited from this donation. This initiative aims to support and foster health technology ideas while also creating an ecosystem for student-founded start-ups in the field.

The curriculum will assist students in identifying problem statements, inspire them to produce technological concepts for the advancement of the healthcare system, and encourage them to come up with technology solutions.

As part of the Startup Incubation and Innovation Center, IIT Kanpur students will also receive funding and networking opportunities to accelerate their growth and foster an entrepreneurial culture (SIIC).

Ajay Dubey earned his degree in chemical engineering from IIT Kanpur in 1980, and he has held positions at Infosys including Vice President, Head of the Pune Development Center, Chief Operating Officer, and angel investor.

Informing about the initiative, he said, “The aim of instituting the HII program is to find solutions that have been designed, developed, and manufactured in India".

"Affordable healthcare is already a huge challenge. The only way forward is for India to create its own solutions, designing, developing, and innovating here, to come out with equipment, processes that work in India, and at a scale that we need it,” he further added.
