As per IIT Kanpur, the program's main goal is to educate participants on how to use renewable energy sources as a weapon to combat the effects of climate change. The training programme was launched on November 17, 2022, in IIT Kanpur's outreach auditorium.

The chief guests for the event were IIT Kanpur Director Abhay Karandikar and AARDO secretary general Manoj Nardeosingh. The programme will concentrate on renewable energy technology for rural areas to lessen the effects of climate change.

The event was also attended by IIT Kanpur's Dean of Research and Development, AR Harish; Sanjeeb K. Behera, Head of AARDO's Administration and Research Division; BV Ratish Kumar, Head of IITK Center for Continuing Education; and J Ramkumar, Coordinator of IITK Rural Technology Action Group (RuTAG).

On this occasion, Abhay Karandikar, Director of IIT Kanpur said, “I hope that this programme would inspire more people to move towards sustainable energy. We have our dedicated Sustainable Energy Engineering Department to work on issues related to sustainability".

He informed that with the help of the Rural Technology Action Group (RuTAG), the institute is concentrating on strengthening the rural communities around us. This centre provides a forum for rural ideas, and through AARDO, IIT Kanpur also provided technological transfer to African nations.

We're excited to have signed an MoU with AARDO for high-end skilling and student exchange programs, he added. Manoj Nardeosingh, Secretary General of AARDO, said, "Climate change is one of the biggest concerns of the 21st century. The worst effects could still be avoided if current energy systems are transformed".

The "Affordable Technology Menu" (ATM) at AARDO is a collection of technologies that includes both innovative and readily available technologies that can be transferred. It is a dynamic database of innovative technologies. Four of the member nations are receiving samples of some of the ATM's chosen technology.
