IIT Kanpur and University of Alberta Partner on a Joint Degree Programme

New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur and the University of Alberta in Canada recently inked a joint degree programme (JDP) and scientific collaboration agreement.

Under the joint degree programme, lecturers from IIT Kanpur & the University of Alberta can collaboratively mentor a doctoral student. It will enable the students from either side to attend the partnered university and do research there. 

IIT Kanpur will also partner with the University of Alberta in the Joint Research Innovation Network with an emphasis on developing novel, renewable, and efficient energy materials, systems, and technologies for the transition to clean energy in order to combat climate change.

The agreement was reached by IIT Kanpur Director Prof. Abhay Karandikar and University of Alberta President and Vice-Chancellor Prof. William Flanagan, based on an IIT Kanpur press statement. 

Both parties engaged in an in-depth conversation regarding the potential for future cooperation and how their respective institutions' expertise may be utilised for education and research & development in varied fields of mutual interest.

Prof Abhay Karandikar, director of IIT Kanpur, stated, "We are thrilled to collaborate with the University of Alberta on this collaborative doctoral programme.” 

He continued, “This arrangement will also provide students with the exclusive opportunity to collaborate with top scholars in their related disciplines and will boost collaboration among our respective universities. This is an important addition to IIT Kanpur's expanding collaborative R&D ecosystem.”
