IIT Kanpur Collaborates with Apollo for Research in Medical Technology

New Delhi: In order to collaborate on research in medical technology, Apollo Hospitals and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on January 4, 2023. The institute and Asia's largest integrated healthcare provider are working together formally for the first time.

By working together, IIT Kanpur and Apollo Hospitals hope to address issues like the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare and other cutting-edge advancements that would strengthen and independent India's healthcare systems. Apollo Research and Innovations (ARI), a division of Apollo Hospitals, has been partnered with IIT Kanpur because it was the first organisation to have ISO certified AI-based clinical applications to predict the risk of developing lifestyle diseases like heart disease, diabetes, COPD and asthma, and liver fibrosis.

IIT Kanpur has constantly invested in teaching and conducting cutting-edge, multidisciplinary research in science, technology, and engineering in collaboration with industry and other universities as a research and educational institution of national importance. In keeping with IIT Kanpur's mission to create a paradigm shift by fusing medical research and technological advances in the nation, the Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology is soon to be built on campus. Now that we have this MoU with Apollo Hospitals, we hope to have successful cooperation in areas like AI in healthcare and other cutting-edge technologies that will help to strengthen and independent India's healthcare systems, said Abhay Karandikar, Director of IIT Kanpur.
