The collaboration between India’s largest iron ore producer, NMDC and IIT Kharagpur will help the research and lead to the development of spectral tools, products, different methods for the exploration of minerals and also improving mining technology.

“NMDC would be the first Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSE) in India to conduct Drone-based Geophysical Surveys and Hyperspectral Studies for Mineral Exploration in the country. NMDC’s tie-up with IIT-Kharagpur will open a new chapter and set a benchmark in the field of mineral exploration for the nation.” the Chairman and Managing Director of NMDC, Sumit Deb said.

NMDC has already been exploring minerals like phosphate, limestone, magnesite, tungsten, and beach for the last six decades. The exploration for diamonds in the State of Madhya Pradesh, Beloda-Belmundi block in Chhattisgarh has also been going on. Technological innovation and digitalization of its database connected to exploration and mining are the core efforts of NMDC.

As a fact, NMDC Ltd signed an MoU with IIT Kharagpur. The dignitaries who attended the signing event were,

In other news, IIT Kharagpur along with NITIE Mumbai and o9 Solutions began a cohort-based research programme. The program is aimed to produce high-quality research papers in the related field of AI/ML using the o9 platform. The collaboration would also give students an opportunity to participate in research initiatives that include real-world complex and large datasets.

Likewise, IIT Kharagpur and the University of Manchester have launched a joint doctoral program for session 2022-23. Under this program, three full scholarships will be offered to selected students. Candidates who are interested in the program can register on the IIT-K website, international.iitkgp.ac.in.
