IIT Roorkee to establish a new Technology Hub to work on the development of 356 fundamental technologies


In a recent official notification, The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has stated that a technology hub headed by the National Mission of Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NH-ICPS) will be established by the institution. 

The new hub called ‘iHub’ will be among 25 of its kind in India, under the financial assistance of the Department of Science and Technology (DST). The hub is being set up by IIT Roorkee to serve the purpose of research and development on 356 fundamental technologies.  

Among the primary focuses of the technology hub, there will be a number of projects across several fields including information technology, health research, defense technology, renewable energy, domestic technology, telecommunications, etc.

In a statement issued by IIT Roorkee, it was stated that the institute looks forward to the development of a number of products through the iHub. These products will be related to CPS and the development will be done by teaming up with several industrial partners and other institutes in India and abroad. 

According to the HoD of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Professor Sudeb Dasgupta, CPS entails all the necessary technologies that will help overcome challenges and requirements of Industry 4.0. The iHub will also help in fostering and nurturing several start-ups with similar objectives, making it an entrepreneur-friendly hub.

The iHub will be expected to actively participate in delivering products and services regularly, including papers, publications, ideas etc. All this is to be done parallelly while the hub is working for the growth of startups under its aegis.  

The Institute also believes that the iHub will help in creating several employment opportunities through industrial collaborations and partnerships with companies and organizations.
