IITs Grab 11 of 15 AICTE IKS Projects; Check Details Here


New Delhi: IITs have bagged 11 out of the 15 projects approved by the Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) Division of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) 

The IKS Division of the AICTE has received a total of 156 proposals for its research project, and out of the156 applications received selected 15 project proposals in six focus areas.

Out of the total proposals, 15 were bagged by the IITs and two proposals of the University of Hyderabad (UoH) have been approved. Nearly one-third of the total applications received were for Science, Engineering, Technology, and only four were selected.

Among the other applications, 4 were selected for Linguistics, Phonetics, Epistemology, Language Technology, 3 for Indian Traditional Knowledge Base, 2 for Arts, Literature, Culture, Aesthetics Folklore, Education, and one each for Management, Administration, Law, Governance, and Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy. 

The IKS Division of Ministry of Education at AICTE has been set up with a view to encourage interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research on all aspects of IKS update and distribute IKS knowledge for further innovations and societal applications. 

The idea behind establishing IKS Division is to initiate a process of training generations of scholars who will show the traditional ‘Indian way’.

Speaking on the program, Prof. Anil Sahasrabudhe, Chairman, AICTE, said that the main aim of the research project is to encourage research in the field of IKS at different levels by providing opportunities to scholars in research projects on the themes of their choice and among the significant field of investigation recognized by the IKS or in the IKS’s own projects and related disciplines.

Further, the goal is to create and update the general research capabilities of the faculty members in IKS of various institutes in India. The council is extremely overwhelmed with the number of applications received and 15 project proposals were shortlisted after careful scrutiny. 

AICTE Approves 15 Proposals 

The AICTE has accepted the highest number of proposals from IIT Kanpur and IIT-BHU with three from each of these institutions, while two proposals from IIT Roorkee, University of Hyderabad and IIT Bombay have been approved. 

Moreover, one proposal each from IIT Dharwad, College of Post Graduate Studies in Agricultural Sciences (CAU-Imphal), and the Central University of South Bihar, has been approved by the council. 

Research and development activities in the IKS Division of the AICTE is an essential component of the education system as it creates new knowledge and insight along with imparting excitement and dynamism in NEP 2020, and making them need-based in view of the national requirements.
