ISRO Selects Amity University for Designing Modules to Launch into Space

Amity University has now become the first Indian University to embark on studying life in Space. The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has officially selected the Amity Centre of Excellence in Astrobiology (ACoeA), to design and build two small modules into space.

ISRO will launch the modules into space in 2021. The Amity University's ACoeA center will fly India’s first Space Biology Experiment from Indian Soil on Indian rocket which will be further set up in a public viewing gallery open in Sriharikota or in Bengaluru.

Astrobiology is widely defined as the students of origin, distribution and future of life in the universe, evolution, and history of life on the earth and possibilities of extraterrestrial life.

Recently, the interdisciplinary scientific field - Astrobiology has become one of th3 emerging courses for the students, helping them to understand the space and the life beyond it.

Amity University Courses 2021

Since Astrobiology has been gaining popularity, Amity University has established India's first-ever Centre of Excellence in Astrobiology at the institute. The researchers along with other national and international partners at the Amity Centre are now developing space experiments, conducting field studies in Mars-like regions of India, and they're also enabling the students from various science and engineering streams to pursue Astrobiology as an exciting new career path.

In collaboration with the international partners, Amity researchers have also been testing the Mars prototype instruments and studying the samples to help characterize and understand the region for assessing the Martian surface environment.

In line with this programme, the Amity University Mumbai conducted the ‘Introduction to Astrobiology’, India's first Online Course in partnership with Mars Society Australia, Blue Marble Space Institute of Science, Open University UK during September to November 2020.

Around 790 students from almost 53 countries participated in the course which ran over 8 weeks. About 300 students successfully graduated from the course as the first Astrobiology students of India.

Now, the course is open to the students from all the disciplines, from undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The details for the next edition of the course are to be announced at the end of this year.
