Jadavpur University has announced that they will continue to hold their evening course for MA History without any breaks whatsoever. They further announced that the forms for the same along with other PG courses will be out by November 23.
This comes on the back of an announcement from Jadavpur University that the evening course will be suspended from the next academic year. Thinking that the decision was against the interest of the students, the Arts Faculty Students Union (AFSU) has been protesting against the authorities since September.

The decision to discontinue the evening MA History course from the next academic year was taken by the Board of Studies (BoS) of Jadavpur University. Upset at not being taken in confidence regarding the big decision, the AFSU had protested from the beginning.
The AFSU started a physical protest by sitting in at the university campus to put their demands in front of the University administration. They successfully made the University take notice of their demands and were granted an audience by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor.
The Pro-Vice-Chancellor promised them that the University will reinstate the courses and they will not be suspended. Taking the reassurance given by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor the AFSU decided to call off the sit-in on November 11 provided that the notification regarding the decision will be released within a week.

In a statement released by the AFSU Chairperson Teerna Bhattacharya, she reiterated that the decision was taken too suddenly without taking in the consideration of the students. According to her a course just cannot be stopped so suddenly in the middle of a pandemic crisis.
She said that the AFSU stayed put with their resolve for a couple of months and after many meetings, demonstrations and protests, their demands have been met as the University conceded its previous position. She further added that the AFSU will always fight for education and the right to education.
Meanwhile, admissions forms for all MA evening courses including MA History will be made available for aspirants starting from November 23. Interested students can check the official website of the University for more details and information regarding the process of admission.
