UG first year courses are expected to begin in the month of December, but due to vacant seats, it may get delayed. JU offers 16 engineering departments with different specialization. In the year 2019, JU experienced 261 vacant seats after 3 rounds of counselling.

As the pandemic situation prevails the vacant seats are increasing. A large number of students from Bengal, Pune, Bengaluru, Mangalore, Chennai, Bhubaneshwar and other cities study from JU. Fear of lockdown and increasing covid cases has been a factor for vacant seats at JU University.

The university is expecting to resume physical classes at the campus. A lot of students from the humanities, science and commerce department are moving out of the leading state to a massive seat crunch.

Over 800 seats have been registered after securing allotment letters from the WBJEE counselling 2020. 450 Seats are still on the table, but if the registered students have not paid the admission fee then the seats might take a hike.

Another reason for the vacancy is that JU offers similar opportunities in other professions. As the recession period is growing, students are looking at secure jobs rather than education.
