Jadavpur University Stands Out as India's Sole State-run Sustainable University in the QS World Rankings

Jadavpur University (JU) has stood out as the country's sole state-run sustainable university in the QS Sustainability World Ranking 2023. The rankings list includes 700 institutions in total, 15 of which are from India.

In this regard, a JU spokesperson said that the ranking is based on sustainability performance and considers metrics like sustainable education, sustainable research, equality, knowledge exchange, and educational impact.

It also focuses on the environmental and social impacts of higher education institutions. Jadavpur University is ranked at eighth position overall in India.

Meanwhile, IIT Bombay (IITB) has vaulted to the top of the list of Indian universities, with 281-300 rank range, followed by the IIT-Delhi (321-340 rank), and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) being ranked third at (361-380). These institutions have been ranked first among all central and state-run universities in India.

One of the most respected international rankings used to gauge the standing and effectiveness of universities around the world is QS World University Rankings.

The initial edition of the QS sustainability rankings, which were released on October 25, 2022, by the QS used a methodology that included metrics meant to measure a university's capacity to address issues with governance, social issues, and the environment.

The indicators are broken down into social effect metrics such as equality, knowledge sharing, the influence of education, employability, and opportunities.

Congratulating the faculty, staff, and students on the university's participation in the sustainability list, JU Vice-Chancellor Suranjan Das stated that it is a source of pride for the university.

Dedicating this ranking to the faculty, students, researchers, and staff, he said that JU had been ranked first among the top colleges in the country in a number of rankings throughout the previous years.

Despite being a state university and receiving little support from the government, the stakeholders of the university are striving for excellence. He concluded by saying that the university aims to achieve more success.
