Jamia Milia Islamia Set Up Committee To Review Implementation of 4-year Degree Courses

New Delhi: According to a university representative, Jamia Millia Islamia has established a committee to examine the implementation of the UGC's directive to begin offering 4-year undergraduate honours degree programmes in the upcoming academic year. The Academic Council will discuss the report of the committee in January, and the Executive Council will thereafter oversee the situation.

The group at JMI is figuring out how to break the three-year curriculum into four years. "A committee has been established to investigate the application of the University Grants Commission's (UGC) guidelines for four-year undergraduate degrees. The committee is investigating the issue and is anticipated to deliver a report on it soon, "Nazim Husain Al-Jafri, the registrar, stated.

At the moment, students must complete a three-year undergraduate programme in order to be eligible for an honours degree.

UG Students' Curriculum and Credit Framework

Prior to now, UGC announced the curriculum and credit framework for undergraduate (UG) programmes, which will give students a choice between single major and double major, as well as interdisciplinary topic possibilities.

If a student chooses the numerous enters and exits option and withdraws before the required three years have passed, they will be permitted to reapply within three years of their withdrawal but will still be required to finish their degree within the required seven years.

UGC updates the current CBCS system

Additionally, the UGC requested that all institutions of higher learning adopt the curriculum and credit structure for undergraduate programmes. The framework was created by making changes to the current Choice-Based Credit System.

Instead of the current three-year course, students will be able to pursue a four-year honours degree under the programme. In addition, there will be two types of honours degrees available: honours and honours with research.
