New Delhi: Jamia Millia Islamia’s UGC Human Resource Development Centre and the Geography Department has begun a two-week refresher course in Geography and Environmental Studies.
A total of forty young faculty members from universities and colleges across India have started the training as part of an online refresher course offered by Jamia Millia Islamia.
The two-week refresher course is the 19th edition in Geography and Environmental Studies, which is currently being held and will conclude on February 1, 2022. The online refresher course began on January 18, 2022.

V.K. Malhotra, member-secretary, Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi, was the chief guest at the inaugural function of JMI's two-week refresher course.
Speaking at the virtual inaugural occasion, Malhotra called upon the scientific community and academia to undertake emerging issues related to sustainable development, environmental management, climate change mitigation, inclusive development and pathways to resilient society post the pandemic.
Ishtiaque, former Vice- Chancellor of Magadh University and retired professor of geography at Jamia Millia, was the guest of honor at the inaugural function.
Anisur Rahman, director, UGC-HRDC, JMI, welcomed the delegates and participants of the refresher course and praised Najma Akhtar, Jamia Millia Vice-chancellor for her leadership skills, who also played an instrumental role towards achieving academic and research excellence over the years.

S.B. Singh, former head and retired professor of geography at Banaras Hindu University, was also a guest of honour, while addressing the participants, he highlighted the pivotal role of 3Es — Environment, Energy and Economy for achieving sustainable development.
Praveen Kumar Pathak, course coordinator, outlined the design of the two-week refresher course and pointed out the theme and sub-themes of the refresher course in geography and environmental sciences.

Professor Haroon Sajjad (Officiating Head), department of geography, JMI gave the chair remarks and emphasized the need for addressing environmental management for sustainable development.
