Jammu & Kashmir: MBBS Students Request Postponing Exams Amidst Pandemic & Network Issues

MBBS students from the University of Jammu and the University of Kashmir are demanding a postponement of their examinations, citing the difficulties of coronavirus pandemics and slow internet.

MBBS students from universities across Jammu and Kashmir are calling for postponing the review of the coronavirus pandemic.

The examination at Jammu and Kashmir Universities is scheduled for August 10, 2020 according to the students.

However, students are citing serious concerns about the prevention of a coronavirus pandemic.

"In the current situation, it is difficult for us to travel long distances to colleges. Our syllabus and practical work have not been completed.

We haven't been able to complete online classes because of the 2G network service. Our books have been in the hostels for the past few months.

We 're asking the authorities to postpone the exams to an appropriate date, "said Jammu University student.

The University of Kashmir issues a date-sheet for MBBS students.

Several students from across the top two universities, Jammu University and Kashmir University told that they don't want to risk their lives, and they're afraid to go to college to take the exams.

'Preparation Badly Affected'

"There is no time for us to prepare. Half of our class is outside the division of Jammu and some outside the union territory.

Many students also belong to the red zone area. This test poses a threat to us. Some of the students in our class are coronavirus-positive and many of them are asymptomatic.

Who will be responsible for our lives? We may not be important to the university, but we are important to our parents, "said Jammu University's 1st year MBBS student.

In the meantime, Kashmir University has announced that the examinations will take place on August 10, 2020.

The examinations at Jammu University are scheduled for 1 September 2020 and the internal examinations (Send-ups) are scheduled for August 10, 2020.

"I tend to have 3 symptomatic patients in my family and I have started to develop symptoms myself. I know a lot of batch mates who are going through the same thing.

How are we supposed to study in the midst of all this? Even if we managed to do so, how do we get back from the COVID hotspot to our homes where the elderly have co-morbidities? How can we put their lives at risk, "said a 2-year MBBS student?

"Only three months have we attended college due to the repeal of Article 370 and now the coronavirus pandemic. Because of the 2G internet connection, we are also unable to access online classes, "said a 1-year MBBS student from GM College.

Several students also told indiatvnews.com that the date of the examinations for Jammu University had been issued only 20 days before the examinations and that they had little time to prepare.

"We talked to the Principal about the situation, and he said it wasn't up to him because it was the decision of the University and the university officials said that the Principal proposed the date sheet.

No one gives us any clear information. Also, we should have been informed about the exams at least 2 months before, "said another Gandhi Memorial College student.
