JIPMER Probes into Allegations of Fake Nativity Certificates for MBBS Admission; Full Report Here


The Puducherry Administration has commenced an investigation into allegations of fake nativity certificates and asked the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) to verify the genuineness of nativity certificates during MBBS Admission 2020.

The Department of Revenue has directed centrally administered JIPMER to furnish certificate copies for verification of the candidates selected under the Puducherry quota.

As per the reports, the government has received many grievances that the merit list which was released recently for the JIPMER MBBS Admission 2020 has the names of candidates belonging from other states.

On November 09, 2020, A Sureshraj, Special Officer at the Department of Revenue, issued a letter to the Dean of JIPMER regarding the commencement of the probe. District Collector T Arun has initiated the letter as a part of the investigation.

As per the letter issued by Revenue authorities, “The dual residence claim is also doubted against a few candidates based on their declaration of the nativity.” Hence, the management at JIPMER has been requested to verify the authenticity of nativity certificates during MBBS Admission 2020.

All India Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) urged Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi to intervene in the alleged irregularity in the admission procedure of the MBBS course.

On November 08, 2020, V Narayanasamy, the Chief Minister of Puducherry said, “The government had received complaints of candidates from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana having submitted fake certificates for admission in JIPMER under the Puducherry quota.”

He further asked the Revenue Collector stating in order to protect the local students’ future, the process of investigation should be commenced. To this, Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi said, “The director of the JIPMER has been requested to not finalize admissions pending verification of documents alleged to be fake.”
