JMI Hosts Team from University of Applied Science, Germany for Student Exchange Program

New Delhi: Jamia Millia Islamia is hosting an international team of nine students from the University of Applied Sciences, Germany under a study exchange program. The team led by Prof Rehklau Christine is visiting the campus for ten days, from February 20 to March 2, 2023.

As per Jamia Millia Islamia, the visit has been initiated as a part of an academic exchange program by the Department of Social Work, JMI. During the program, Professor Najma Akhtar, Vice-Chancellor of JMI will share academic and field engagement with the students. 

On the first day, Professor Najma Akhtar, Vice-Chancellor of JMI welcomed the students on the campus. She interacted with the team and shared her ideas about the visit, expectations from this program as well as how this visit can become a memorable experience for the team.

She further shared an elaborate schedule with the other departments and the team. Throughout the exchange program, the team will have exposure to interventions in child protection, inclusive education, gender-based violence, homelessness, substance abuse, and rural livelihoods.

In addition to this, the team will have an opportunity to experience rural livelihood and learn about its realities. This program will aim to introduce participants to the concept of social work practice in India and its varied interventions at the micro, mezzo and macro level.

As a part of the exchange program, Professor Neelam Sukhramani, Head of the Department of Social Work presented an elaborate presentation about the program with the students and shared the significance of this collaboration between the two institutions over two decades. 

In other initiatives, JMI hosted an international conference on "E-Literature: Explorations in Literary Creativity" to bring together experts and speakers from India and many other countries. The event was held for a duration of two days, from January 16 and January 17, 2023.

On this occasion, speakers discussed various topics, such as methodological, epistemological, and narrative components of E-lit among others. The event was attended by faculty members, staff, interested students and experts from different countries across the globe.
