Kashmir University 2020: New UG, PG Programs to be Launched this Academic Year


Decisions are being made to launch new UG and PG courses in Kashmir University which will come into force from this academic year. There will also be some changes and collaborations between the departments offering the courses. 

The University of Kashmir has taken the decision of launching new UG and PG courses after the 97th meeting of the University Syndicate. However, the decisions are yet to be approved by the University Council. 

The meeting was convened by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Talat Ahmad. The other members of the meeting included representatives of each department.

Kashmir University 2020-21: Proposed new courses

The following courses are to be launched in Kashmir University and in the institutions affiliated to it. 

  • Bachelor’s Degrees in various Paramedical Courses at Government Medical College Srinagar
  •  Master’s Programmes in three disciplines of engineering at the Institute of Engineering Zakura
  •  PG programme in Anthropology at the Institute of Kashmir Studies
  • Integrated B.Ed-M.Ed programme at the Department of Education

Kashmir University 2020-21: Other proposals

There was also a discussion about recognizing Geo-Informatics, Clinical Biochemistry, and Bio-Resources as full-fledged Departments-Cum-Research Centers. Currently, they are termed under the departments of Earth Sciences, Biochemistry, and Botany, respectively.

Another proposal that was decided to be presented to the University Council included an integrated PhD programme in Microbiology at the Centre for Research and Development (CORD).

Some general discussions related to administrative efforts and the faculty appointment for the courses also took place during the Syndicate meeting. 

A finance committee meeting was also held along with the syndicate meeting which was also chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Talat Ahmad. The finance committee presented the accounts of the statutory bodies and proposed a vote of thanks.
