Kashmir University Suspends Classes till July 31, Faculty put on Work From Home


As per recent updates, University of Kashmir has officially notified that classes will remain suspended till July 31. 

Dr Nisar Ahmad Mir, Registrar, Kashmir University has issued a circular that states, “All faculty members shall work from home and utilize the time for online educational activities as per the approved academic calendar.”

The order was passed by the Higher Education Department, KU on 7 July 2020 (Tuesday). University will remain open for administrative functions and concerned officials will work from home.

Earlier, KU decided to promote students based on internal assessment. As of now, varsity is to continue with online classes till August 15.

Added to this, the notification also mentions that Dean, Director, officers, coordinators and Head of Departments of all Registrars, Campuses, Institutes, Units, Centres and Schools will continue to function and attend professional duties.

“The rationalization/utilization/roasters shall, however, be subject to feasibility and available staff strength at a particular administrative unit office”, reads the notice. 

As such this direction by the Higher Education Department has been considered ‘inconsistent’ by KU officials. Officials also questioned regarding their attendance at the University. Thus, defeating the objective behind work from home as such activities can increase COVID-19 contraction.

An addendum to the notification also clarifies that both faculty and staff need to be active through telephone for regular communication. Both teaching and non-teaching employees are specifically requested to carry out professional duties.

Employees are to contact the controlling authority over the telephone and report to official duties.
