New Delhi: KTU, Kerala in order to focus on establishing a knowledge community will fundamentally restructure the conduct, structure, content, and evaluation of MTech courses. The Academic Council and the Syndicate's proposals have been adopted by the board of governors.
Currently, ten regional clusters provide more than 100 diverse MTech courses. The cluster-level graduate committees, directed by the principal college in each cluster, are in charge of course syllabus development, assessment, and evaluation.
The board of governors has recommended creating a single system for conducting MTech courses beginning with the 2022-2023 academic year, removing the present cluster structure and placing MTech courses under the direct supervision of the university.
All of the KTU's affiliated colleges will use the same structure for MTech programmes. Only the first two semesters of the two-year course will be delivered in a traditional classroom setting. The second-year will be focused on MOOC courses, industry-related internships, and projects.
Students can continue their second year in one of two ways after two semesters. Those who pick the first route will obtain a standard MTech degree, but those who choose the second track will be able to pursue higher education, research, and entrepreneurship.
Individuals with an 8.5 cumulative GPA in the first semester and a GATE score are only eligible for the second track. In the third semester, they must also publish a journal.
Recently, KTU planned to increase research in its almost 150 associated institutions. The Syndicate decided to set aside 4.79 crores for the establishment of advanced research facilities to stimulate engineering research with the goal of achieving a knowledge economy.
A Syndicate meeting presided over by Vice-Chancellor M.S. Rajasree also resolved to make Elsevier, a prominent publisher of world-class scientific research papers, available to all colleges.
This would allow students to have free access to up to 300 research publications. The institution will also acquire Knimbus mLibrary, a digital library platform, to digitally distribute Elsevier's journals and allow students to download and read journals on their mobile phones.
