Madras University to Form Expert Panel to Oversee Teaching, Research; Check Details Here


University of Madras on June 19 decided to form a high-level expert committee of retired vice-chancellors, and professors for the review of teaching, and research activity quality in the university. 

Referring to the formation of the committee, the vice-chancellor, University of Madras, S Gowri stated that the committee will include former UGC officials, retired vice-chancellors of the university, along with industry, and IT experts. 

"We also plan to engage Indian professors working in foreign universities. The committee will help enhance the quality of teaching, research, and placements while preparing the University for Future learning - education 4.0” vice-chancellor, S Gowri further added. The resolution of the committee was passed by the syndicates of the University of Madras on Friday, June 18, 2021.

Additionally, Madras University is also planning on forming a syndicate committee that will review the technology and infrastructure development of the university. The committee will take care of the online education, and assessment requirements of the university. 

As per the reports, Madras University will introduce a Thirukkural for Professional Ethics as an elective UG course in all its affiliated colleges. The syllabus of the course will be decided by the university itself.

"Thirukkural for Professional Ethics will be introduced as one of the elective courses in all UG programs in affiliated colleges, the university will decide the syllabus" the report further reads.

Madras University has also received directors from syndicate members to release papers on its financial status, and funds transferred to different accounts. 

"Due to the financial crisis, the university has moved funds from various accounts in the past as well, but the syndicate was always informed about it. We don't know if funds had to be moved recently as the syndicate could not meet for the past three months due to the pandemic," a member said.

As per the directions, the university will now release a white paper on the funds transferred in the past three months to meet the salary, and pension expenditure.
