It should be noted that colleges in Tamil Nadu have been ordered to conduct exams in online mode from December 21, 2020, onwards. While the schedule for regular examinations has already been announced, students who had arrears were previously not given any information regarding their exams.

Online classes and exams have been in effect in Tamil Nadu since March 2020 when the lockdown was imposed across the country because of COVID 19.

The Delhi and Maharashtra government has passed orders to cancel the examination and to promote all the students due to the disruption in education. Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Edappadi K Palaniswami followed the same and passed a government order on August 26, 2020, promoting all students except final years on existing forms of assessments.

Since then, the Supreme Court had passed orders in favor of UGC declaring that students, especially final year students, cannot be promoted without a legitimate assessment.

However, the worst sufferers were students who had backlogs. Unlike regular examinations, until now there had been no news of how arrear examination in the state would be conducted.
