Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) has given an option to the UG and PG students of health sciences to appear for summer 2020 university exams from any health science college of their choice at their hometown or from their own college.
This decision is taken by MUHS, in view of COVID-19 crisis and on-going lockdown going on in the state.
The students provided this option are pursuing allopathy, homoeopathy, dental, nursing, ayurveda, unani, etc in 373 affiliated colleges across the state.
MUHS Vice-Chancellor Dileep Mhaisekar held at least 15 online meetings in the past one month with various stakeholders which includes deans/principals of all the colleges. Following which, the stakeholders have agreed to the plan.
MUHS earlier had written to the Medical Council of India (MCI) seeking time to organise summer exams. MCI had asked MUHS to complete exams by June end. However due to extended lockdown MUHS is unable to do so.
According to the reports, the PG medical (allopathy) students were also involved in treating the COVID positive patients in the hospitals. As a result, they could not prepare for the exams.
Ajit Pathak, controller of examination is working overtime to identify 300 health science colleges across the state which could be available as exam centres. The University will share more details with the colleges and students soon.
